New collector’s item

On my last visit to the Museum of Cultural History in Oslo, I found another wonderful new collector’s item:

The “Berserk” belongs to a set of 78 chess pieces that were discovered in 1831 on the Isle of Lewis, the largest island in the Outer Hebrides. They were probably made in Norway in the 12th century and are considered to be the best preserved medieval game pieces. They are also an excellent example of Romanesque ivory carving.
